Supposed to be about the children that mandate has become buried in bureaucracy

Hi there, I just came across your page. I became associated with Alberta Maintenance Enforcement since meeting my boyfriend a couple years ago. I couldn't believe all the restrictions put on him that directly and massively contributes to him not being able to work. The program exists to ensure children have money for their upbringing but how is this helping children when you put the debtor in a predicament where he/she cannot work or they lose their job because of licence restrictions, etc.

I have never been involved with anything like this before and find it absolutely mind blowing.


I understand programs like this exist because of parents that knowingly refuse to pay child support even when they can absolutely afford it. But the Alberta program needs an overhaul. First of all, they are never going to do well collecting money when 90% of the staff are mean and rude and assume every caller is a dead beat parent. And for the sake of the children doesn't it make more sense to try your best to collect money and work with the debtor?

I just want to know how treating a debtor like they do helps the children. We are lucky enough to have a great relationship with my step-daughters mom and we all get along relatively well and the child in question has constant and anytime contact with both of her parents and step parents and is loved very much.


And since we have an open communication line between us all, we know that Alberta Maintenance very easily treats the creditor poorly sometimes as well. I feel like what they do borders on criminal. I would love love love to get a job there and provide some true HELP to the debtors that are trying to work with the ex and the program. However I doubt that will happen but I have decided that this upsets me enough that I am going to write some letters to some politicians.


They need to change this program to punish the true deadbeats and treat the program members that are cooperating much better. I'm also going to talk about what I learned with all my friends, family and co-workers and ensure lots of other people are aware of this incredibly flawed system.


As a side note, I see you are having a walk on June 17th...have you given Global and CTV a heads up that you are doing this? The sad truth is (and I am proof of this) that most people don't have a clue how brutal and unfair this program is and I watch news and keep up with current events regularly. This needs to become more common knowledge. As soon as I started living through it and realized how it is I did tons of research and read tons of such sad stories so why aren't more people aware of this? If it was more publicized the political decision makers would have no choice but to take notice so I am so glad to hear you guys are organizing a walk...we'll be there if our work schedules allow it.


And I hope the walk attracts some media attention and perhaps one of the organizers could be interviewed for the evening news. Somethings gotta give with this program...so mind blowing that one organization is given that much power over people's lives and it really doesn't seem to matter whether you pay or not.


This is supposed to be about the children and somewhere that mandate has become buried in the bureaucracy and children are not benefiting when their parent is unable to obtain a licence to drive for work or drive for visits, or appointments or sports, etc. The children are not benefiting when a parent kills themselves because they have no help or options left. Having just learned about this I am completely mind blown that an organization like this is allowed to continue operating as is. Just wow!!!

This is Man & Woman neutral! Debtors, Supports, Family, Friends, Even creditors who have been damaged or know someone damaged by this program.
