Hello. My daughter turns 21 this month. She’s living away from the custodial home and taking art classes for the last 2 + years with no real direction or path. I’ve made numerous attempts to re-establish a relationship with her, but am told “I’m not ready” each time. Her Mother has poisoned her against me and her extended family (step Mom and brothers and sister).

I’ve been paying child support for 20 years, but have other children that need my support (one already in College and two that will be in the next few years). Is there no end to paying child support for my estranged daughter? Will the family law guidelines support her treating school like a hobby just so she can collect table support indefinitely? My custody agreement doesn’t specify an age regarding this obligation. It just references “as long as she’s a minor”. At 21, living on her own, meandering in school and spending most of her time as a blogger on social media how does she still qualify as a minor?

I’m wondering how much longer I’m required to pay child support. My Daughter turns 21 this month. Her mother has poisoned her against me and her extended family which includes a step mother and siblings. Despite multiple attempts to rekindle our relationship she has advised me that she “isn’t ready for that yet”.


She spends the majority of her time living independently in an apartment and as a blogger on social media. It is clear that she is only in school for the purposes of qualifying for child support as a minor. My custody agreement does not reference any specific age after which support shall terminate, but mentions that HR continue as long as she is deemed a minor. 


At 21, in school taking Art for three years and living on her own how does this qualify her as a minor? I have other children, who live with me and love me,that require my support and I’m struggling to meet those requirements. How much longer will the Recipient and my Daugter be able to abuse the system?
